And probably has many a winding turn, I don’t know. I feel like I should have had a map of the USA while reading the current chapter of The Grapes of Wrath. It describes the road they have to take to get from Oklahoma to California (on route 66 apparently), and the towns and states they have to go through to get there. I have a vague understanding of where these places are, but obviously not clear enough, because the route made no sense to me whatsoever.
The journey has barely started, but already looks like it’s going to be long and difficult (probably comprising a fairly large chunk of the book), and there’s been enough foreshadowing (is it still foreshadowing if it’s blatant?) that you feel there’s no reward at the end of this struggle. Which is a depressing thought. I’m probably going to need something a bit cheerier after this.
In other news, we’re somewhat buried under the snow at the moment. Which is both neat, and somewhat annoying (having to figure out if we can get to work, assuming it’s worth doing so). They joys of being an adult. 🙂
